Lars Carlsson was INTERTANKO Chairman (2001 - 2004) and is currently the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Shipping Emissions Abatement and Trading (SEAaT).
All types of emissions from ships are under increasing scrutiny from regulators and Carlsson discusses why it is vital for the industry to be pro-active in finding solutions to further reduce emissions from ships. Over the last 30 years, the industry itself has made improvements through optimised hull and propeller designs, more efficient engines, and particularly the dramatic change in transport patterns via larger ships and the use of economies of scale. All these improvements are the result of significant investments and technological innovation.
